Congenital Hyperinsulinism International’s (CHI) annual Sugar Soirée will be held on the evening of Saturday, November 15th at The Highlawn, a historic venue with spectacular New York City skyline views in West Orange, New Jersey.
The organization’s signature event to celebrate the congenital hyperinsulinism (HI) community, unite its advocates and raise funds to improve the lives of those born with this rare disease has a special significance this year: CHI’s 20th anniversary. What began in 2005 with a small parent group of children facing the challenges of HI has evolved into a leading international nonprofit organization. This would never have been possible without our dedicated supporters. Please, dedicate yourself to joining us for this exciting gala!

CHI envisions a future where every baby, child or adult born with HI can access essential medication, surgeries, blood sugar testing supplies and effective treatments ─ and, ultimately, a cure toward which our scientific partners are working tirelessly. Our mission is rooted in ending the threat of brain damage and mortality associated with this condition, allowing individuals to live free from the constant fear of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). As a global lifeline for those with HI and their families, CHI strives to create a world where “lows” are a thing of the past.
Funds raised at the Sugar Soirée will continue to support our work:
- raising vital awareness of HI to end preventable brain damage and death from hypoglycemia
- funding HI research for better treatments and a cure
- helping patients gain access to specialized treatment, medications and supplies
The Sugar Soirée offers an unparalleled opportunity for sponsors to demonstrate their philanthropic commitment at this event, which brings together CHI community leaders from across the country in finance, healthcare, biotech, research, the arts and technology. The event also affords CHI the chance to honor a few of its most ardent supporters, via the Sugar Soiree’s annual Be My Sugar awards. The master of ceremonies will be award-winning broadcast journalist Cheri Preston, who currently anchors morning-drive ABC hourly news and bottom-of-the hour updates on radio stations across the country.
Attendees will enjoy a coveted dining and entertainment experience in this unique venue, a landmark that served as a strategic overlook during the Revolutionary War and, later, for scientific experimentation for World War I efforts. Thomas Edison, a local resident, filmed history’s first motion picture (“The Great Train Robbery”) in surrounding Eagle Rock Park, which was developed a few years later by iconic landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted.
