With your generous support, the 2017 Sugar Soirée was a great success. With 290 people in attendance and many more donating in honor of the event or participating in the auction, we are overwhelmed by your generosity.
You made the evening very special and your donations will have a huge impact on the lives of people born with the rare condition, congenital hyperinsulinism (HI). Together with you, Congenital Hyperinsulinism International (CHI) will continue to support promising research projects leading to better treatments and a cure, raise awareness of HI to end preventable brain damage and death, and support and help families access lifesaving medications and treatment. This video was made for the occasion of the 2017 Sugar Soirée hosted by Conan O’Brien. Conan’s creative team, CONACO, generously created this moving video using footage from the 2017 CHI Family Conference which took place at the Stockton Seaview Hotel. The video footage was shot by Evan Fredriksen. The video features children with hyperinsulinism and their families, and leading world experts in the field of hyperinsulinism. They share information about the condition and reasons to support the world’s #SweetestCause.
Thank you so much for joining us in honoring Dr. Diva De León-Crutchlow of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, with the CHI Be My Sugar Award for Medical Excellence. Dr. De León is a true champion of those living with HI and their families, and her promising research has added very significantly to the understanding of HI. We know that her continued work will lead to great results.
We were thrilled to honor Alexandra Fallon with the CHI Be My Sugar Award for Extraordinary Service. Ms. Fallon’s work has made it possible for CHI to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to support HI families, fund research, and raise awareness to prevent brain damage and death. Her beautiful designs have lifted the spirits of our community and helped us to share a strong visual message.
We also give special thanks to Conan O’Brien for being an entertaining host extraordinaire. He lit up the room with laughter and wit. The short video created by Robert Ashe of Conan’s team was a succinct and moving telling of the CHI story. We give thanks to all who participated in the making of the film.
The live music from Hamilton Loomis and Tenille Arts added so much to a beautiful evening. We don’t know of another rare disease organization that has an original song dedicated to those living with the condition. Sugar Baby was passionately played and sung, The Sugar duet from Tenille and Hamilton was soulful and beautiful. How generous of these two talented artists to play at the Sugar Soirée.
How amazing was it that Lydia Fenet, a Senior Vice President at Christie’s joined us to be our auctioneer. What a job she did!
And what a meal we had. We thank Mario Carbone and Major Food Group for a superb reception and dinner. The dining experience, service, and cuisine were impeccable.
The event would not have been possible without our fabulous event committee led by our honorary chairmen Liza and Conan O’Brien, Mario Carbone and Major Food Group, and chairmen Pamela and Eric Rytter. We thank them and our Junior Committee and volunteers for a fantastic evening.
Finally, we thank all our 2017 Sugar Soirée Sponsors for opening your hearts and supporting the #SweetestCause. The future is bright with such a generous and dedicated CHI Community.
We noticed our check-out lines for donations at the event were overflowing. For anyone who would like an opportunity to make a contribution to CHI, you may donate here: https://congenitalhi.org/donate/ or send a check made payable to CHI to:
