New York City’s Sweetest Event

The Sweetest event in New York City, the Sugar Soiree, will take place at the City Winery in SoHo  Won'cha be my sugar final(https://congenitalhi.org/soiree/), tomorrow night. The event is being organized by Congenital Hyperinsulinism International (CHI), the organization dedicated to improving the lives of patients with the rare condition.

For those with hyperinsulinism a spoonful of sugar plays a much more important role than just “help..(ing) the medicine go down.” Sugar actually saves these babies lives. Babies born with the condition often require 4 times as much sugar or carbohydrates as the average newborn before a treatment plan is put in place. These babies are initially put on sugar water through IVs to prevent low blood sugar which can lead to death or brain damage if untreated.

On Saturday night, CHI will be celebrating its “Sugar Babies” while raising awareness of the condition and funds for research, education, and support. Abby Huntsman, MSNBC’s Host of the Cycle, will be the MC for the evening. Dr. Charles Stanley will be presented with a lifetime achievement award for his extraordinary dedication to patients and the study of hyperinsulinism. CHI will also premiere its new film on the condition, directed by award winning documentary filmmaker, Laura Naylor. Musical entertainment will be provided by pianist Jenny Naylor Richards and mezzo soprano Sylvia Szadovski.

“I am so thrilled we are able to put this beautiful event together to honor Dr. Stanley and raise funds
for and awareness of hyperinsulinism. Planning this event has been an incredible opportunity. We have the best supporters!” said Event Chair Sarah-Charlotte Browne, a member of the CHI Board of Directors.
