CHI has a new YouTube music video. Singer songwriter Janna Pelle performs her original song, “Down and Up” with children who attended the Congenital Hyperinsulinism Family Conference at Cook Children’s in Fort Worth, TX last spring. The video is lots of fun and a great way for kids to introduce congenital hyperinsulinism to friends and classmates. Here is a link to the video. The video is directed by Abel Diaz and produced by Sparklefly Studio.
Five years ago, I received an email from the mother of a three-year-old boy in Germany who asked us if we had good materials for her son to share with nursery school classmates that would help explain congenital hyperinsulinism, the condition her child has. At the time, we didn’t have anything exactly right, but sent the mother some HISimplifed postcards, which are great, but are for an older crowd.
I discussed the request with Janna, who was our social media manager at the time, and she said, “why don’t I write a song?” I said, “great,” and “Down and Up” was born. The actual writing of the song and making of the original video occurred during the beginning of the pandemic. At the time, Zoom music videos with people recording from their homes became popular. That was our first version of the video.
The current version is just delightful, and it was wonderful to collaborate with Cook Children’s Hospital, in Fort Worth, TX, on the production. We may not have a cure yet (we are working on it!), and in the meantime, we have an original hit song!
