A juice box saved my life…
For families and people living with HI, managing blood sugar isn’t just about taking medication or surgery; it’s about constant vigilance.
Even with treatment, people with HI often rely on rapid-acting carbohydrates—like a juice box—to quickly raise blood sugar during severe lows.
What might seem like an ordinary juice box to most families can represent something far more significant in ours: a lifeline. That’s why, in this campaign, a juice box has become a symbol of the simple rescue tools families rely on to stay safe—whether it’s a few glucose tablets, a squeeze pouch of applesauce, or whatever fast-acting carbohydrate is close at hand when it’s needed most.
Through the Juice Box Campaign, we’re spotlighting one of the realities of life with HI, to raise awareness and so more people understand what life with this condition truly means. As giving season approaches, we’re calling on our community to raise awareness, raise blood sugar when it counts, and Raise It Now—helping fund critical support for people with HI worldwide.

Origins of the Juice Box Campaign
Hyperinsulinism mom Brianna was inspired by her own daughter’s rescue treatment for hypoglycemia, the humble juice box. She shared her adorable homemade shirt with the design “A Juice Box Saved My Life” on the front, getting many other HI parents excited in the comments of the CHI Family Support Group on Facebook.
Building on and inspired by Brianna’s shirt, CHI worked with Notre Dame students studying rare disease awareness created a campaign around the concept: The Juice Box Challenge. Set up with a booth in public spaces on campus, students came to learn about hyperinsulinism and to film their own videos drinking juice with our campaign tagline: “Let’s Raise It Now!”
Finally, with Toronto-based HI parents Deepti and Shubham, the two concepts came together. Shubham, a talented video editor, created the launch video for our campaign, summarizing the importance of raising blood sugar and awareness.

As an artist, Deepti created this beautiful design for us, which we are thrilled to offer for sale as t-shirts, sweatshirts, onesies, and totes. Her unique style incorporated our juice box theme perfectly to create this fun, colorful illustration.
