Congenital Hyperinsulinism International Resource Map

Due to the rarity of congenital hyperinsulinism, finding health care facilities and personnel with experience in treating patients with the condition can be a major challenge. Congenital Hyperinsulinism International (CHI) seeks to make that search easier with tools and information on leading centers of hyperinsulinism treatment and research. In addition to providing information on leading centers, CHI is also aware that many HI families are also looking for doctors near their homes with at least some experience treating at least one patient with the condition. CHI understands that for some families local medical care is the most accessible. Some families initially seek out care that is close to home, and if necessary, transfer to a leading center often at a distance from home. For that reason, CHI has also included contact information for physicians who have treated at least one patient with the condition. This information was compiled by surveying patient families, asking them to share the medical centers and physicians they have seen.

This resource has been compiled by Rianna Sommers, intern at CHI. Rianna has displayed the information in the form of a world map. Rianna and CHI will continue to add new informational features to the maps, including more detailed information about the congenital hyperinsulinism centers, pediatric endocrinologists who have treated at least one congenital hyperinsulinism patient, and other important resources.
